A Letter from Our Founder

March 1, 2026 · Kole Lim

It started with a simple idea: cook a Thanksgiving meal for families who couldn’t cook one themselves.

A Meal That Changed Everything

Last Thanksgiving, a few friends and I gathered at my house to prepare meals for families living in unstable housing. We didn’t have a plan. We didn’t have a nonprofit. We just had food, a kitchen, and the belief that no family should go without a warm meal on Thanksgiving.

We loaded everything into the backs of our cars and drove to communities where families were living in hotels and temporary housing — places where a microwave and a mini-fridge were the only kitchen appliances available. We opened our trunks and handed food directly to families.

That day, we served over 50 families. And the feeling was unlike anything I’d ever experienced.

More Than Food

What struck me wasn’t just the gratitude — it was the connection. Families lingered. Kids started playing soccer in the parking lot. Parents talked to each other. For a moment, it didn’t matter what anyone’s housing situation was. People were just people, sharing a meal and sharing time together.

We did it again at Christmas, bringing meals along with toys, clothes, and blankets. And that same magic happened again.

Why We Keep Going

The truth is, these families are invisible to most people. They’re not sleeping on sidewalks. They’re working, they’re sending kids to school, they’re doing everything right — but the system has gaps, and they’ve fallen into one. Housing vouchers that nobody accepts. Hotels that drain their savings. Food pantries that give groceries they can’t cook.

That’s why Seed to Serve LA exists. We fill a gap that nobody else is filling: healthy, prepared meals for families who have a roof but no kitchen.

And we’re just getting started. Our vision extends beyond meals to community soccer spaces — places where families can gather, play, and feel like they belong.

Join Us

Our first official feeding event is April 4, 2026. Whether you can donate, volunteer, or simply spread the word — you’re part of this.

A meal can change a moment. A field can change a future. And together, we can change a lot of both.
