600 Bags in Eagle Rock: Our Second Produce Giveaway
September 30, 2026 · Seed to Serve LA Team
On September 25 and 26, 2026, our volunteers sorted, bagged and gave away more than 600 bags of fresh produce at Interwoven Church in Eagle Rock. That is about 5,000 pounds of food, close to four times what we handed out two weeks earlier in San Marino. Every pound of it was donated.
Two Days Instead of One
After our first giveaway we said the next one would run across two days, so every volunteer had real work and every bag got looked at before it went out. This was that plan in practice.
Friday was the work day. The morning went to pickups, loading the van straight off the pallets. By the evening the produce was inside, and a crew of volunteers spent the night sorting it and packing it into bags by hand. When they finished, every row of seats in the room held a line of full bags.
Saturday was the giveaway. This one was a drive through. Cars came in from Addison Way, volunteers loaded bags straight into each trunk, and cars left on Laverna Avenue. The line stretched down the street.
What Was In The Bags
Watermelon, cabbage, lettuce, carrots, garlic, grapes, strawberries, blackberries and cucumbers, plus shelf staples like oats and pinto beans. Whatever came off the pallets that week went into the bags.
As always: no cost, no paperwork, no appointment and no ID. If you came through, you got a bag.
Where It Came From
The produce came from the Social Justice Learning Institute in Inglewood and Seeds of Hope, who have both backed our giveaways since the first one in San Marino. Not one dollar of it was bought.
What Changes Next Time
Splitting the work across two days did what we hoped. Friday had plenty to do, and Saturday moved quickly because the bags were already packed.
The next step is reach. Two weeks ago we gave out 253 bags. This time it was more than 600. We would like the next one to be bigger again, and that means more people knowing it is happening.
Thank You
To Interwoven Church and Harlan for opening the building to us, for the space to hold a full load of produce overnight, and for inviting their own community to serve alongside ours.
To the Social Justice Learning Institute and Seeds of Hope for the food.
And to every volunteer who gave up a Friday night or a Saturday morning, or both.
Come To The Next One
We are back at Interwoven Church on Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10. See the details and sign up to volunteer.
